Former Dallas County Sheriff — and openly lesbian Latina — Lupe Valdez has won the Democratic nomination for Texas governor, defeating Andrew White, son of former Texas Gov. Mark White, by a 52.5-47.5 margin. The New York Times has called the race for Valdez with 73 percent of precincts reporting.

Lesbian attorney Lorie Burch has claimed the Democratic nomination to face Republican Van Taylor in the race for U.S. House District 3 in November. Burch beat Sam Johnson 75-25 to claim the nomination.

Lesbian candidate Gina Ortiz Jones beat Rick Trevino, 68-32, and will face incumbent Will Hurd in November for the District 23 seat in the U.S. House. And in the U.S. House District 27 Democratic runoff, gay candidate Eric Holguin beat Rick Barrera, 62-38 and will face Republican runoff winner Michael Cloud in November.

In the Democratic runoff in state Senate District 17, lesbian candidate Fran Watson fell to Rita Lucido.
