About 500 people attended the Teddy Bear Party, which took place at 6500 on Cedar Springs Road on Dec. 3.
In addition to 1,300 teddy bears collected for Children’s Medical Center, the event raised about $28,000 to be divided among Equality Texas, Family Equality Council, Stand Up to Cancer and Rainbow Roundup.
On Sunday morning, about 20 people returned to 6500 to pack up the bears to deliver to Children’s. The bears were packed 10 to a bag (to get a count of how many bears they collected) and filled a U-Haul. Co-founder Jason Hanna earned his lesbian credential by driving the truck to the hospital.
Hospital employees greeted the volunteers, told the story of how the bears are used. Here’s our story from last week’s newspaper. Several children who were in the lobby ran down the stairs to get their own bear.
If you would still like to contribute bears to Children’s Medical Center, you can drop them off at Dallas Voice, 1825 Market Center Blvd. #240 and we will make another Teddy Bear Party delivery.
