The Anointing to perform at MCC of Greater Dallas on Saturday
The Anointing, a nine-member band from Resurrection Metropolitan Community Church in Houston, will perform in concert Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Metropolitan Community Church of Greater Dallas.
The concert will give the audience the opportunity to participate in the praise and worship music and will not include a sermon.
The band will also be featured guest performers during the church’s 10 a.m. services on Sunday.
The Anointing’s recording, “Breaking Through,” is the No. 10 top-selling recording of Pride Christian Music for the first quarter of the year. The band’s single, “That’s What We Came Here For,” hit the Pride Christian Music singles chart at No. 9 for the first quarter.
Robert Blake, leader of The Anointing Ministries, has been a member of Metropolitan Community Church since 1981 and has served in various positions in congregations in Dallas and Houston. He has been a musician, singer and pianist since his teens and spent five years as worship leader at Maranatha Fellowship Metropolitan Community Church in Houston.
Eight years ago, Blake and several of his friends created The Anointing Ministries, which includes singers, instrumentalists, worship leaders, teachers and pastors as well as the band that will perform in Dallas this weekend. The group has performed at churches, festivals, parks and retreats across the United States.

Lambda Legal holding “‘Women’s Brunch’ with Lynch, Marculewicz
Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund will hold the “Think Big” women’s brunch Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, in a private residence in Dallas.
Guest speakers will be the Ohio couple of Jean Lynch and Helenka
Marculewicz, who are Lambda Legal clients. Although Lynch’s employer recognizes the couple as domestic partners, their relationship status is now being challenged in a lawsuit claiming that recognition of domestic partners violates the state’s constitutional definition of marriage.
Camilla Taylor, Lambda Legal staff attorney, will speak on the meaning of Lambda’s impact litigation in the struggle for civil rights.

SPCA, city of Dallas offering low-cost pet vaccination clinic
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the city of Dallas are joining together to offer a low-cost vaccination clinic for dogs at cats Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at My House of Prayer Church, 4536 Ash Lane in Dallas.
Core vaccines and rabies vaccines will be administered by the SPCA for a total of $17. Microchips will also be offered for $20, which includes free registration.
City officials will register people who qualify for free spay/neuter services, with proof of state assistance, and will register vaccinated pets.
No appointments are necessary. Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers.
Federal Club holding “‘Family Adventure’ at Science Place at Fair Park
The DFW Human Rights Campaign Federal Club presents the kid-friendly “Family Adventure” on May 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Science Place at Fair Park.
All GLBT parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents and Big Brothers/Big Sisters are invited to bring the children in their families for the day, which includes a special private light show at 10:30 a.m. and a complimentary pizza lunch at 11:30 a.m.
