Former State Board of Education member George Clayton, who was defeated in the Republican Primary last year after being outed as gay, says he plans to run for Richardson school board this May.
Clayton, who works for the Dallas school district but lives in Richardson, sent us a copy of the letter he wrote to DISD Superintendent Mike Miles and Thomas Jefferson High Principal Aamir Ashiqali informing them of his candidacy.
“Three years ago I announced my candidacy for a seat on the Texas State Board of Education, an election I went on to win,” Clayton wrote. “As a courtesy, I contacted Dr. Hinojosa, then DISD superintendent, of my intention to run for public office. Now, at the urging of many good friends, I have decided to run for a seat on the Richardson Independent School District Board of Trustees. This is your notification of my candidacy. Thank you for your courtesy in this matter.”
