Florida turns blue in January

Justice Clarence Thomas denied Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi a stay on the state’s marriage equality rulings. The current stay expires on Jan. 6.

On Jan. 6, same-sex couples will be able to get married in Florida making it marriage equality state No. 36.

The New Civil Rights Movement published a copy of Thomas’ order denying the stay.

Thomas referred the request to the full court and a majority voted to not stay. Scalia and Thomas would have granted the request, according to a document published by Miami Herald. Thomas could have granted the stay without referring to full court.

One thing an LGBT newspaper has never said before: Thank you, Clarence Thomas.

Bondi, who loves marriage so much she’s done it twice, has not explained why, if she likes doing it so much, she doesn’t want others to marry. Maybe she’s worried if too many gays and lesbians marry, Florida will run out of marriage licenses and she won’t be able to get one next time.
