Upon receiving the Dropboxed press kit for the “Birth of a new Gay French electro duet,” our curiosity was definitely piqued. Immediately, we thought of the Pet Shop Boys with berets or the pop-gone twins Tegan and Sara — but, ya know, gayer … and with male parts.

What we  got was not quite what was expected.

Alcantaresque poses some major flair in their press kit alone, with a comic-book-style intro detailing the duos back story and genesis. Composed of Little Nemo and “vocal performer” Mr. William out of Paris, the duo then invites us to discover their first single “Tormenta” in an extended version on YouTube, which you can watch after the jump.

Through their photos, bio and video, they recall somewhat that eccentric queer group Army of Lovers known mostly for their lone ’90s dance hit “Crucified.” Just don’t expect that kind of pop confection. Alcantaresque is driven by a major EDM sensibility with few lyrics. The video is a string of pixelated images that don’t say much but still imbue a dark overtone and Mr. William works the heck out of his blond hair and dark moustache.

They do make the assertion that they are down with the community. In their bio, they are sure to mention just how gay (and gay-friendly) they are. Verbatim from the press kit:

Supporting the gay scene

The gay scene is where Little Nemo is the most famous. In particular he supports it by playing for NGOs and gay organizations. He says that “playing for these kind of parties represents my contribution and my support to gay life and culture.” He does not miss any Parisian Gay Pride since 2000 where he plays for the G&L Sport Federation, or Le Kiosque Info Sida. But that’s not all: he is very often invited to play in support of Act-Up Aides Sidaction, Playsafe and other. He is also the official DJ of the French G&L Sport Federation mixing at almost every parties and being DJ at the international Paris tournament which brings together more than 1,000 people from all over the world every year.

M’kay? But we appreciate the support. Merci.
