The info below, along with the video from a home surveillance camera, just came across from DPD. Note that police do not believe this robbery is related to one that occurred the night before on Throckmorton Street. Sr. Cpl. Kevin Janse told Instant Tea that the suspect descriptions from the two incidents don’t match. There have been no arrests in either case, and both remain under investigation. From DPD:
Armed Robbery Caught on Tape
Dallas Police Robbery Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating several aggravated robbery suspects who stole a victims property at gunpoint as he was walking down the street. This offense took place on July 12, 2011 at 11:40 pm in the 2700 block of Welborn. The offense was captured on surveillance video and was documented on case #183542-Y.
In the [below] video, the suspect vehicle, described as a small white 4 door vehicle, is seen driving slowly down the street. The vehicle pulls over just out of view and the passenger gets out with a gun. This suspect is described as a black male about 20 -25 years old, standing 6’1”-6’2” and wearing a grey or white tank top. The suspect walks up to the victim and demands his shoulder bag. The second suspect was the driver and never exited the suspect vehicle.
Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information called into Crime Stoppers which leads to the arrest and indictment for this felony offense or any other felony offense. I’m so tired of saying, concealed handgun permit people. If it had been me, I would have shot his ass when he turned his back on me. I don’t give a shit, yes I would shoot him in the back and worry about it later. You have the right in Texas to use deadly force to protect your property. If these bastards started getting shot and the news broadcast it, maybe they would think twice.
I am torn. This video brings out a conflict between judgmental, racist views, and “what you see (on film) is what you get” truth. Black people do NOTHING to advance their cause when they don’t actively teach their young men and women to educate themselves and work like productive citizens. YET AGAIN, we have a (presumably) under-educated black male robbing a white male. Notice to the black community: nothing will change until your people make it a focus- almost a commandment- to raise your behavioral game and raise men (and women) who reflect a greater good for the community and don’t need to commit crime.
This hits very close for me because it happens to be my family but anyone who has the nerve to rob someone like the coward did here should have gotten shot in the back as he walked away! How is it every crime we see now days its a black person as the suspect! Get an education and make your own damn money! All you are doing is making it hard on your entire race! Quit being a loser and work for what you want or need!

hey this sounds like what happened to me augest 31st 2010, but they shot me and left me for dead, they drove by slowly stopped and 2 black guys got out, they beat me, robbied me and then shot me. i hope the DPD is looking into all simler crimes, and if they find that gun i hope the compare it to my case

Eric is a privileged white male? How do you know? Could be Asian or Hispanic and poor as hell for all we know. But I think we can pretty well tell he isn’t black. It makes you look prejudice, like you think only white folks say bad things about black folks, and if they do, they must be privileged. Let’s bring it back people. The issue is police presence, protection, safety. The economy sucks right now for everyone and these crimes of opportunity are going to increase. Just be aware and don’t be a hero. I still say that a lot of this would be fixed by a public parking garage in the Oak Lawn area that is lighted, with cameras, close by and patrolled. I’m getting more and more scared to go to the strip area at night. Pity.

Thanx Erin. That is the real problem in Oak Lawn…not enough safe parking and plenty of dark, unsafe options. The economy has been bad on ALL communities so for some of the commenters to point out one specific community got under my skin. I could not my respect myself if I didn’t call out racist bigots like I do with homophobes/biphobes/tranphobes. Crime is about opportunity, desperation, and a lack of respect for another human being. The criminal mind has NOTHING to do with a specific race or color.

@James…I am really sorry for your experience and I understand your animosity towards this individual but to hate an entire race for the act of one person is allowing the criminal to still have control of your life and way of thinking. Racism is poison. I had a friend who had his face stomped in by two WHITE men as he was a block away from his apartment. Should he be hateful and afraid of all young white men? It sounds stupid when you’re talking about white men b/c they are suppose to have the economic advantage but it is so easy to despise people of color. Like I said before a criminal is a criminal b/c of lack of respect for other living things not b/c of a specific race.

We all have free choice which path we decide to walk down in life. We all have regrets on paths we took one time or another, I know I do. I think lack of education, both at home from parents on right and wrong, and from our educational system, fail too many people of all races, and they end up in a life of crime or not able to fulfill their full potential. I support free college education for all citizens in order to give all citizens the opportunity reach their potential. I’m not making any excuses for this fellow, this piece of shit robber, he chose his path, and like I said before, I would have shot him. I’m just pointing out the failure that can sometimes lead to those choices. James, I’m sorry you had to go through this, as I am sure every other writer here is. You survived an extremely dangerous situation and I hope it NEVER happens to you again, and that others pay attention to what happened and are prepared.
This was the same man that robbed me the Saturday of the 4th of July weekend. He was with his “friend” and his “friend” assaulted my friend by punching him in the face and knocking him down. I had the gun pointed at me. I was on Knight Street near Hall Saturday July 2nd at night (not too late). Everyone was walking about heading to the bars, therr was traffic on the street., It was such a brazen attack to do it on such a busy night and it was well lit. It so happened that just for those few seconds we were the only ones on the street. The Dallas Police responded immediately including undercover officials. Apparently this thug and his buddy are targeting the neighborhood right now. That night they both were dressed nicely as if they were going out. I had seen them walk ahead of me for 1 block (in the same direction towards Cedar Springs. Prior to them attacking us there wouldn’t have been anything suspicious about them for they blended in quite well with everyone else that was out and about.
So be careful out there, we were taking every precaution: not walking alone, walking in a well lit area, on a street with pedestrian and automobile traffic. They looked and dressed like they were heading to the clubs and didn’t attack us immediately. From what I’ve found out since then this criminal and his partner are responsible for 12 robberies and 1 assault (my friend).
