I just came from the Saturday matinee of Shut Up, Sweet Charlotte, Varla Jean Merman’s hilarious spoof of the Grand Guignol potboiler with Bette Davis and Olivia deHavilland. The show was less well-attended than it should have been, considering how entertaining this quick (75 minute) comedy is. Just seeing Varla Jean — all 8’3″ of him — being windblown in a peignoir, or Charlotte showing off her garden — “look at all my pansies” she says with a sweep of her hand at the audience — are worth it. But there’s tons more. The last performance is at the Eisemann Sunday at 2. Catch it if you can.в топ
