The unmarried domestic partners of city workers in El Paso stand to lose their health benefits, after the City Council voted not to overturn a ballot initiative that passed Nov. 2.
According to The El Paso Times, the council voted 4-3 today to allow the ballot initiative to stand despite the fact that its wording was questionable.
The initiative backed by a conservative religious group passed with 55 percent of the vote.
Although it voted not to overturn the initiative, the council reportedly plans to put another one on the ballot in May that could require the city to restore the health benefits.
