For an election night that largely bode well for incumbents (and not well for Rep. Molly White!), a few bad apples still managed out to eke out wins.
Among them is Travis GOP County Chairman-elect Robert Morrow, who bested incumbent chairman James Dickey by 6,000 votes.
According to the Austin American-Statesman, Morrow is a self-proclaimed JFK assassination expert who owns “about 400 books on the subject and believes that former President Lyndon B. Johnson had Kennedy killed.”
He cowrote The Clintons’ War on Women with former Trump adviser Roger Stone and regularly speculates on former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton’s sexuality.
That’s not all. He thinks GOP presidential candidate and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is “a gayman [sic] who got married.” The Republican National Committee is a “gay foam party”. For what it’s worth
As returns came in, he wasn’t at a watch party. He spent the evening tweeting about some of his favorite past times: presidents’ penises.
Other tweets, which I will not post here, are just like the others: racist, sexist and homophobic comments.
Dickey attributed Morrow’s win to high turnout mainly triggered by the presidential primary.
“As you go down the ballot, there are bound to be races for which (voters) have no information,” Dickey told to the Statesman. “It is probably very likely that the vast majority of those people were, in fact, unfortunately guessing and guessed wrong.”
Travis County Republican Party vice chairman and GOP strategist Matt Mackowiak has been the most vocal in his opposition to Morrow so far.
“We will explore every single option that exists, whether it be persuading him to resign, trying to force him to resign, constraining his power, removing his ability to spend money or resisting any attempt for him to access data or our social media account,” Mackowiak told the Texas Tribune. “I’m treating this as a coup and as a hostile takeover.”
Morrow’s response?
“Tell them they can go fuck themselves,” Morrow said.
Morrow will take office in June.
