White Rock opens its range of architecture to the public

Spring — the season when we brush the sleep from our eyes, worry about getting our beach bodies in shape and begin nosing into other people’s living spaces. Yes, it’s time for a slate of home tours.

The next one up on the calendar is the White Rock Home Tour, now in its 14th year. And as always, organizers have mixed it up. Instead of a heavy dose of Mid-Century Modern homes (a style that predominates the area), there will be a majority of true modern homes — five in total… plus, of course,

two Mid-Century. For the first time in the tour’s history, they will even show a “work in progress” — a new house in mid-construction designed by modernist architect Cliff Welch.

You can also see trends and ideas, including energy-efficient features, floor-to-ceiling glass, double-sided fireplaces and more.

Tickets are $15 ($20 at the door) and benefit DISD’s Hexter Elementary School (last year, the event donated more than $60,000 to the school). Hours are noon to 5 p.m. April 27–28. For more information, visit WhiteRockHomeTour.org.
