It’s been just more than a week since a series of deadly tornadoes ripped through Northeast Texas, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. And many of those who lost their homes and possessions are struggling to find a foothold from which they can move forward. Over the New Year’s weekend, two more local organizations stepped forward to help the storm victims take that first step.
TAR Disaster Relief Fund
The MetroTex Association of REALTORS announced on Dec. 31 that it is working with the Texas Association of REALTORS Relief Fund to offer financial assistance to victims of the Dec. 26 storms. Residents of Collin, Dallas, Ellis and Rockwall counties whose primary residences were damaged or destroyed by the storms are eligible to apply for the financial assistance — up to $1,000 per applicant. Applications will be process as soon as they are received.

DFW Muslim Community
ICNA Relief USA, a national nonprofit organization is working with governmental agencies, local Islamic centers and churches and other relief organizations to help those affected by the Dec. 26 storms. ICNA Relief USA has set up collection centers at various local mosques to collect critically needed items from the local Muslim community to donate to those in need. The organization has also set up an office at Multi Agency Resource Center to register clients who may need long-term help in their recovery.
“This is exactly what Muslims are commanded to do by Almighty God,” said Riyaz Lareef, president of ICNA Dallas. “in this difficult time, we must stand together as Americans and as brothers and sisters in humanity.
