Stonewall Democrats of Dallas began registering voters in the Bishop Arts District last weekend.

Michael Moon, president of the group, said the registration event represents a new phase in outreach. The group set up a registration table in front of Hunky’s Hamburgers in the Bishop Arts District.

“While we have gone outside the Oak Lawn area to register voters when asked, registering voters in Bishop Arts District is a new and significant strategy for us,” Moon said. “Oak Lawn is the center of our community, but as with every other socioeconomic group, we are diverse and we live in other parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.”

Oak Cliff has large numbers of potential GLBT voters in Stevens Park, Kessler Park and Wynnewood.

Moon said the registration effort was successful, and the group plans more appearances in Oak Cliff and other areas of the city.
