Four Day Weekend announces its departure from Sundance Square

The comedy institution that has been a cornerstone in Fort Worth for the past 27 years, will depart Sundance Square in July. The decision comes after Sundance Square Management opted not to renew its lease. Since its inception in 1997, 4DW has entertained more than 875,000 audience members with 7,500 shows.

“We are deeply saddened that we won’t be able to continue our journey in Sundance Square, a place that has been our home for nearly three decades. However, we are excited about finding a new location in Tarrant County where we can continue to bring laughter and joy to our loyal audiences,” founding member David Wilk said in Thursday’s press release.

4DW have been recognized with the Key to the City from former Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief for being “Fort Worth’s Greatest Ambassador,” and the Small Business of the Year award from the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. The comedy troupe’s influence has reached beyond downtown Fort Worth having performed for two U.S. Presidents and delivered a keynote address to the United States Congress.

The 4DW story began with a six-week run at Casa on the Square in 1997 which then led to a 27-year relationship with Sundance Square.

“Improv teaches you adaptability,” Wilk added. “It teaches you to fail fast and move on. We now have to figure out what we are going to do from this point forward. This isn’t what we had wanted, but we are looking at this situation as an opportunity.”

As the company — institution, really — prepares for its transition, 4DW is committed to its mission of spreading laughter to its audience.

Four Day Weekend has a second location in Dallas, on lowest Greenville Avenue, which will continue to operate as usual. The team is actively searching for a new venue in Tarrant County.
