Southern Methodist University will honor Resource Center with its Simmons Luminary Award on March 21.
Each year, SMU honors a local, regional and national organization that shows “an extraordinary commitment to improving lives through education (including)…public policy, research and leadership.”. This year’s regional honoree is the Crystal Charities Ball and the national recipient is the National Geographic Society.
On its web page for the award, SMU says, “Established in 1983, Resource Center focuses on education, service and achieving equality, recognition and equal rights for gays and lesbians in North Texas.”
For more than nine years, Resource Center has been partnering with the Simmons’ Center for Family Counseling at SMU to offer affordable, high-quality mental health counseling. Master of Science in Counseling interns from SMU’s Affirmative Therapy with LGBTQ Clients Program provide specialized counseling for youth and adults in in individual, group, and family settings.
