Smallest country in the world is now a marriage equality country

Marriage equality has been declared — in the world’s most remote and smallest country by population — making it more progressive than Texas.
Pitcairn Island, population 56, located in the Pacific Ocean, became a marriage equality country today (Monday, June 22). The country is the least populated jurisdiction in the world and is a self-governing British Overseas Territory.
According to the new law, “marriage means the union of two people regardless of their sex, sexual orientation or gender identity.”
The island is best known as the refuge for the mutineers from the English ship Bounty in 1790. They set Fletcher Christian adrift in a small boat. Christian made it back to England and the mutineers were eventually found and tried.
