Oklahoma’s Democratic Party tweeted this message of congratulations to Allison Ikley-Freeman

In a special election held on Tuesday, Nov. 14, Allison Ikley-Freeman, a lesbian, won a state senate seat by 31 votes.
Last year, in the general election, Democrats poured money into the race for this seat to try to flip the seat from Republican control but lost by 15 points. This year, Ikley-Freeman, 26, who had never run for office before, managed without much party support. According to Tulsa World, she mobilized an army of volunteers and her message resonated.
Ikley-Freeman becomes the second lesbian in the Oklahoma Senate. Kay Floyd represents a district in Oklahoma City and replaced Al McAffrey, who is also gay.
