Neighbors bar in Seattle

A fire at Neighbors, a Seattle gay bar, is being called a hate crime. Someone set a staircase on fire, and a gas can was found after the fire was put out.

The Seattle Times reported that about 750 people were at the bar  celebrating New Year’s Eve when someone poured gasoline on the carpet and set the fire. The fire was put out with fire extinguishers, but the sprinkler system went off when the fire alarm was pulled. The bar was evacuated, and no one was injured.

Dallas filmmaker Robert Camina is making a film about a similar event at a New Orleans nightclub. In 1973, someone set a fire at the Upstairs Lounge, and 32 people were killed. Camina made the film Raid on the Rainbow Lounge.
