A man carrying a purse and wielding an ice pick robbed the Walgreens on Cedar Springs Road early Wednesday, making off with $43.99 worth of condoms and $29.76 worth of makeup after threatening a manager.
According to a Dallas police report, the suspect entered the store at 3802 Cedar Springs Road in the heart of Dallas’ gayborhood at about 1 a.m. Because the suspect had stolen merchandise from the store in the past, a manager followed him. The manager observed the suspect placing several items into his black purse.
When the suspect tried to leave the store without paying, the manager approached him and asked him to empty the purse. After the suspect dumped out the purse on the floor, the manager said he was going to call the police. That’s when the suspect pulled out a large ice pick and pointed it at the manager and said: “Stay still, do no follow me or I’ll kick your ass.”
The suspect then grabbed the stolen merchandise and fled on foot. In addition to the Trojan natural lamb condoms and miscellaneous makeup, the suspect made off with two travel bags valued at $15.98, according to the report.
Sr. Cpl. Kevin Janse, a spokesman for DPD, said as of this morning there had been no arrests.
According to online records, it was the sixth aggravated robbery at the Cedar Springs Walgreens this year.
Curious to know if this store gets enough business to justify staying open that late. More power to them if they do… but the CVS by my building downtown closes at 10pm every night and it bugs the crap out of me.
I doubt they do get enough business. I don’t think it’s safe to be open that late in Oak Lawn if you’re not a bar. .

Walgreens is not a public building and can ban, or prevent, customers who steal from entering the building again. As a customer I expect management of all stores to provide safety. Hopefully the manger immediately called 911 to report a suspicious person entering the building. Hopefully the manager immediately called 911 and neighboring businesses to warn them of a man carrying an ice pick. Hopefully the manager ensured the safety of his customers and employees inside his building and in his parking lot during the incident.
If these preventive safety measures did not occur Walgreens can not expect me to be a customer in the future.
As a late night partier and resident of Oak Lawn, that Walgreens gets a lot of late night business. Their cigarettes are cheaper than Valero (important). You don’t have to stumble over a bunch of a crackheads and hustlers to get a pack of gum or a beverage or condoms like you do if you go to Valero or condom sense (very important).
