Below is a rather unflattering report from WFAA’s Jonathan Betz about Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings’ decision to skip a “Meet the Mayor” community meeting in Kiest Park on Tuesday to avoid a gay-rights protest — a decision which some are calling “cowardly.”
“Although folks here did not meet the mayor,” Betz says at the end, “many say they still learned a lot about him.”
Just ouch.
How many times is this mayor going to opt out of his mayoral duties?
Was the Mayor meeting with former First Lady Laura Bush, a gay marriage supporting Dallas resident, instead? Come on Mayor, be bold and “officially” stand for marriage equality like so many of your counterparts across the country are doing.
I like how one the people talked that they wanted to talk to Rawlings about Redisticting, but yet Gay people can care less about that shit. (Little of them do care) Most of them can less about where they live. Putting Kesser Park in District 1 would just be a mess and then still I have to vote for a Oak Cliff Council Person where he lives maybe 20 miles from my house. That’s still an important topic, but no theses people are just becoming other groups that are just “Me, Me Me!” What about the people?
We ARE the people.
A mayor that doesn’t want to get involved with social issues is about like a fireman that doesn’t want to get involved with fires!
I meant the people who give a shit about the government?
I like how one the people talked that they wanted to talk to Rawlings about Marriage Equality, but yet ‘Redisticting’ people can care less about that shit. (Little of them do care) Most of them can less about where they who they can and can’t marry. Not being able to marry the person I love or having to settle for a separate but equal ‘civil union’ would be a mess, and I’d still have to put up with all the shit from the religious right. That’s still an important topic, but no theses people are just becoming other groups that are just “Me, Me Me!” What about the people?
Derp.
So does the mayor have to do anything about marriage? I don’t give a f- if he does or not, I give a f- agian about how my taxes from my Clothes or my Morning Cup of Starbucks goes to streets and PD. Did you ask the guy about his opinion about Gay Marriage? You have no credit that he agianst marriage or not. The damn meeting wasn’t even about Marraige anyways. Look, I believe in the you don’t vote, don’t bitch theory. Until you vote, and Hispainc Voting Numbers go up, no Immigration Reform or Marriage. I believe in the Dream Act, but we need f-ing jobs 1st!
