Outrageous Oral 21 took place at the Round-Up Saloon while The Rose Room finishes its renovation.
Michael Doughman spoke about the LGBT travel writer’s tour and Dickie Weaver and Mary Mallory tag-teamed stories about Black Tie Dinner.
Doughman had convinced the Visitor and Convention Bureau that the best advertising for Dallas would come from travel writers. In his years with the bureau, he took Dallas from being thought of as a worst destination for LGBT travelers to a top-5 destination.
Weaver and Mallory talked about how Black Tie Dinner came into existence and grew. They showed a video produced for the 25th dinner that featured some of the speakers, the top song of the year and chairs and award recipients.
Videos of each Outrageous Oral presentation are available on YouTube. High quality videos are stored at the LGBT archive at University of North Texas in Denton. The archive announced at Outrageous Oral that it completed digitization of the full run of The Gayly Oklahoman, which was printed from 1983-2006 and it is available online at its site.
Outrageous Oral 22 on July 21 features the stories of the Turtle Creek Chorale and also takes place at the Round Up.
