Oak Lawn United Methodist Church raised $1,640 for SOS–Survivors Offering Support at a concert on Sunday, March 6.
“You’ll Never Walk Alone” featured music performed by the Dallas Police Choir, Resounding Harmony, the Turtle Creek Chorale Chamber Choir, the Oak Lawn Band and Jonathan K. Merritt of East Dallas Christian Church. Speakers at the event were Dallas Northeast Division Police Chief Catrina Shead, LGBT Task Force member Omar Narvaez, the Rev. Neil Cazares-Thomas of Cathedral of Hope and the Rev. Anna Hosemann-Butler and John Horany of OLUMC. Oak Lawn’s associate pastor the Rev. Ben Hensley moderated.
Hate crime survivors Michael Dominguez and Burke Burnett received a standing ovation and spoke about SOS, a group they created to help survivors emotionally and financially.
