After a fearless five-year battle with cancer, Patricia Leah “Pat” Gamble, 59, passed away on May 5, 2016 in Dallas, surrounded by family and friends.
Pat was born Feb. 17, 1957 in Abilene, Texas. She is survived by her wife, Susan Maiden. Pat and Susan were committed life partners for more than 31 years and were married on Dec. 26, 2014, in San Francisco. Pat also leaves behind two rescue dogs, Maggie and Fergus.
Pat received a bachelor’s degree in education from San Marcos State College and a master’s in library science from Texas A&M, Commerce. For the majority of her 33 years in teaching, Pat was a dedicated Dallas schoolteacher and tutor. She retired from Hillcrest High School, where she taught pre-honors English and mentored new teachers.
Pat was admired and respected by students and teachers alike. During her career she was recognized for her teaching excellence with a teacher-of-the-year award.
Pat was known for her sense of humor and her storytelling ability. She was the kind of person whom everyone wanted to be near. She loved reading, travel, art, bike riding, hiking and yoga. She was a committed Democrat and worked on many campaigns over the years.
A memorial to celebrate Pat’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at Resource Center, 5750 Cedar Springs Road (at Inwood). The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to Scottie Kingdom Rescue Inc., P.O.
