Just as my review of Dish was headed to press (you can read it here) I saw an item — and got an email — complaining that the two gay managers at the Cedar Springs restaurant (but not the straight G.M.) were canned. Apparently, some people are screaming homophobia.
That seems unlikely to me, if only because word also comes that the on-site executive chef, Brian Sommers, has also been let go … and he’s straight. Plus, the G.M. still there, Shawn Horne, is a straight-but-gay-friendly guy I have dealt with ever since he had Kitchen 1924 in Lakewood (he came to Dish directly from Five Sixty by Wolfgang Puck).
We’ll see how all this develops, but until it affects the food, I’ll give it time to shake out.
Both Drew & JD (the Gay Managers) provided outstanding customer service. It seems odd that they were replaced by former employees of LIFT – both straight. Why mess with a good thing.
I dont understand why they were replace with LIFT employees. I know that LIFT closed due to financial failures by Tim McEneny – so does that mean the managers of DISH have to be fired so that the less fortunate LIFT staff can have ‘replacement’ jobs? I wonder what the service staff are thinking about all of this. Is there any job stability at this location? Will we continue to see new management coming through along with new servers? Dallas guys like to have their regular servers wait on them at their fav locations as well as management should be consistent! I think they should be investigated… it could ring a discriminatory lawsuit… just doesnt seem fair.
I really want to set the record “straight” here. Tim is one of the most liberal guys you could ever meet, going all the way back to his birth place in San Francisco and working with the likes of Ian Schrager. That being said, he is a business man that happens to be very loyal to his longtime employees. If an individual’s performance is not up to snuff then they will be replaced, regardless of sexual orientation, race or creed. There are plenty of openly gay individuals working at DISH right this very moment. I find Tim’s commitment to long-time staff an admirable quality and one that I admire.
The openly gay individuals still working there are all service staff – pretty much every retaurant in Dallas has at least one openly gay server, so that’s not saying much Dawn.
Renee there are at least 10 openly gay people working there and that is not counting myself. Point being this is about a commitment to long time employees and quality of work. This is not a gay issue as more than half the people let go were/are straight.
Dawn
So were they let go so that Tim could make room for his longtime employees that he is so loyal to or was the opening staff not up to Dish par?
Let go because they were gay?….Oh Pleeeeeze…..maybe they found someone better….stop the vendictive crap….it’s always because of race, or religion or sexuality….how about because you couldn’t do the job…..or they just wanted new faces…stop the “poor me” crap…
The food was average, the service was average, the only good thing about my visit was the decor and atmosphere. Hunkys had better service, and better tasteing food for the price. I was a full time resturant manager, and waited tables 3 days a week. I dont care if your gay, straight or bi, if you can’t do the job, your gone.
