Mark Doty named chief preservation planner for Dallas

Mark Doty has had a hand in preserving the architectural integrity of Dallas for years. An architect by training, he has served as Dallas’ historic preservation officer, and has actively lectured about the tension between growth and honoring civic history by way of its monuments, buildings, parks and geography. He’s also been an advocate for preservation in the Oak Lawn/Uptown area. (We even profiled Doty about a book he wrote, Lost Dallas, here.)
Well, he’s only expanding his reach — Doty has been named the City of Dallas’ Chief Preservation Planner, a role that requires figuring out what to save and what to renovate, versus what can go. It’s a highly political and sensitive kind of job, but one that’s important, especially in a city as progressive developmentally as Dallas. Congrats, Mark!
