Women’s Museum seeking films to screen in honor of suffrage movement
The Women’s Museum in Dallas is looking for documentaries and films to screen during the month of August to celebrate and honor the women’s suffrage movement. Museum officials also hope to have one or two filmmakers speak about the importance of women in film and how film can be considered a continuation of the women’s movement.
Museum officials are open to exploring any topic related to suffrage, women’s rights and the importance of women in politics and public policy.

Unity Church of Dallas presents seminar by “‘O’ Magazine contributor Cushnir
Unity Church of Dallas, 6525 Forest Lane, presents a seminar by author, activist and teacher Raphael Cushnir, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The title of the program is “Setting Your Heart on Fire: Two Questions That Can Change Your Life.” Cost to attend is $20.
Cushnir is a contributor to “O, The Oprah Magazine,” and he has been a teacher, activist, screenwriter and film director. He is also author of the book “Unconditional Bliss: Finding Happiness in the Face of Hardship,” which was twice nominated as “best personal growth title of the year.”
Cushnir will also speak at the church’s 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services that day.

SPCA offers grief counseling session for those who have lost animal companions
The SPCA of Texas offers its Pet Grief recovery program, designed to help those grieving the loss of a beloved animal companion, at 1 p.m. on Aug. 5 and on the first Saturday of every month at the SPCA offices, 362 S. Industrial Blvd. in Dallas.
The program is free and open to the public.

Tickets available for Lightning Bowl fundraiser for Big D Classic tournament
Tickets are available for Lightning Bowl, a fundraising event to kick off the fifth annual Big D Classic bowling tournament in August.
Lightning Bowl registration begins at 8 p.m. on Aug. 11 at USA Bowl, 10920 Composite Drive. The $20 fee includes three games of bowling, cash and prize giveaways and a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds go to the Big D Classic tournament, which selected AIDS Interfaith Network as this year’s beneficiary.
The Big D Classic, also at USA Bowl, is scheduled Aug. 12-13, beginning at 9 a.m. both days. The tournament concludes with an awards banquet at the Round-Up.

Operation Kindness offers low-cost microchipping clinic on Sunday
Operation Kindness will offer low-cost microchipping for dogs and cats on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at its Carrollton shelter, 3201 Earhart Drive.
Cost is $15 per animal, which includes lifetime registration.
No appointment is necessary but there may be a wait, depending on the number of animals in line. All dogs must be on leashes and all cats must be in carriers.

Women’s Chorus of Dallas to hold auditions for new members
The Women’s Chorus of Dallas will hold auditions for new members on three consecutive Mondays, Aug. 14, 21 and 28, at 6:45 p.m. at the Sammons Center for the Arts, 3630 Harry Hines Blvd.
Prospective new members will have the chance to observe a rehearsal, meet chorus members, learn about the chorus and schedule and audition time.
