John Anderson has started a Change.org petition asking the city to add “lights, cameras and take action” to make Oak Lawn safer.
“Make Oak Lawn a hard place to commit crime,” Anderson wrote in his petition.
The petition calls for more lights on Cedar Springs Road and on cross streets. The attacks that have been reported have been on side streets just off Cedar Springs where most people park when going to The Strip. While Cedar Springs from Oak Lawn to the ilume is well lit, the side streets are not.
Anderson calls for adding cameras as both a deterrent and to help police catch the attackers when these crimes occur.
Finally, Anderson calls on the community to take action.
“Invest in private security and increase police patrols,” Anderson wrote in his petition. “Post signs stating that the area is under surveillance. Increase visibility of security on surrounding streets off the strip.”
He is looking for 1,500 signatures and by Monday afternoon had already collected more than 1,000.
