Davis mug shotKim Davis was ordered released from jail after U.S. District Judge David Bunning said her office was fulfilling its obligation to issue marriage licenses. She was ordered not to interfere in the issuing of licenses.
The order says she must not interfere in any way, directly or indirectly. If she does, she is in direct violation of the order and could be “sanctioned.” That would probably mean a new contempt citation and she could be sent back to jail.
Attorneys for the five clerks who said they would issue licenses must submit a report to Bunning once every two weeks showing they are complying with the court’s order.
Davis’ release screws up plans for a number of Republican presidential candidates who were grandstanding on the Kim Davis issue. Mike Huckabee’s campaign had already set up a platform outside the jail for a rally this afternoon and Ted Cruz was planning to visit her in jail.
