Closing arguments in the penalty phase of Bobby Singleton’s trial are now complete, and the jury is deliberating again. During closing arguments, Singleton’s attorney said anything more than 20 years would be “highly inappropriate.” But the prosecutor told the jury that if they sentenced Singleton to only 20 years, they would be the “laughing stock” of the Texas criminal justice system. The prosecutor said Singleton should be sentenced to at least 60 years, which would be twice as much prison time as his co-defendant, Jonathan Gunter.
Singleton deserves longer than 20 years, but what about Dean? He is facing a life that will be forever altered by the attack and at last I heard he might be homeless. What is being done for him?
I, for one, would be happy to help out if possible and I suspect a lot more LGBT Dallasites would be as well.
a 60 year sentence would be appropriate considering he most likely would serve about half.
