Gay porn star Mason Wyler, who may or may not still live in Dallas, came out last week as HIV-positive on his blog, Wyler Nation (NSFW):
I have something to say. I spent the last few months waiting for the right time to tell you but it turns out that there is no right time… I wish I could put this off for a little while longer but information like this usually finds a way of coming out sooner than later. In fact, people have already begun to talk so I might as well just tell you now. I tested positive. I have only myself to blame. I have HIV and it kind of sucks.
Wyler followed up the first post with this one a day later:
Since testing positive in May, I have hooked up with a total of three people and they were all HIV positive themselves. Seriously. I have not gone around fucking, barebacking, or infecting HIV negative people. I am a sex fiend. I am NOT a monster. So to the people who are spreading rumors that I have done otherwise, STOP. You are not saving anyone’s life by talking about me so STOP. You can not equate countless hours spent browsing hook-up sites and blogging about my sexual desires online to a wild and irresponsible sex life offline so STOP. You don’t know what I do in my private life so STOP. What you are saying about me could be considered defamatory so STOP. You have already done enough damage so STOP. Seriously. Just STOP.

Good lord, what a terribly sad posting. I feel sorry not only for him not only b/c of his HIV+ status but b/c he seems so bereft of interests apart from sex. And good lord twice, no wonder he’s all sex all the time; he seems to know about nothing else. Who would want to befriend or even chat with such a dolt?
Double ditto Phyllis. It seems like this internet drama is creating a lot of stress in his life ….stress that he doesn’t need at this time. Create another reality with other interests and get to know your body in another way.
To Mr. Wyler, I have been a fan for a long time and will continue to be a fan. I give you credit for admitting to the public on your status. Fuck those idiots who may say or write stupid things. Take care of yourself, buddy!! You’re still king in my book!!
I think that as an observer of all of his work and his online dramas and confessions there are two lessons. The first is what you disclose online comes back to bite, but it also comes back to serve others in learning. Despite some contempt for his life there is no need to write nasty stuff or on one blog a photo of him with aids written around it. Second, Mason has a choice and I hope his friends support him – he does not have to become the next Joey Stefano. Read Joey’s biography and learn from it. I don’t want to be reading the same biography and outcome for Mason. Lives need to be learnt from and with support and taking care of mind and spirit, in 20 years we are likely to be reading about what the alive Mason is doing. But it is a choice. Don’t go down the Joey path.
While i dont wish HIV on anyone, when someone not only engages repeatedly in unsafe sex but writes blogs glorifying it and encouraging others to do so as well, I hold no sympathy when the consequences come.
As I don’t know any porn stars, I do know many poz folks and any disclosure whether it be online or any other form is a personal choice, and difficult or not it is disclosure…and if you think that disclosure is deceitful than your’re fooling yourselves…hiv is passed among two – just like pregnancy…get with it…be safe,,,be responsible ask before you engage is the message here…judgements do not help anything or anyone.
Perhaps a clear, simple, educated article of how HIV is transmitted and how infection can be prevented is warranted in the Voice as a reminder.

I know about the window periods but what did he mean when he talked about different kinds of tests and their misleading results?
I wonder how his fans will feel about watching his old stuff now? Can you still watch him getting plowed without a condom and get turned on knowing this could have been the jizz that was infected.?

To Mason and anyone in the same situation: Take charge of your health and have a dr. you trust and you should do well as so many positive people do. Take good care of yourself, play safe always, and go on with your life. Pay no attention to mean comments from some people, that is their own problem. As for Mayson Wyler, he’s a beautiful guy who’s had a good career, and one thing may have nothing to do with the other. People who hate porn and sex itself should keep their warped views to themselves.

I was always a huge fan of you and I still am. I support you Mason. Mason, you are a very handsome guy and I hope things get better. I hope they find the cure. Until then, I wear the red ribbon to remind everyone how fragile we really are.
