Former Ohio Congressman Donald Lukens died in Dallas on Saturday. He was 79.
Lukens began his political career as leader of the Young Republicans in the 1960s.
He was first elected to Congress in 1966 as a hawk on Vietnam but left to run for governor of Ohio. He lost that election but was elected to the Ohio House. In 1987 he was re-elected to Congress.
In 1989, Lukens was convicted of paying a teenage girl to have sex with him. Although he refused to resign from Congress, he was defeated in 1990 by John Boehner, who is now House minority leader.
In 1991, after losing his appeal, Lukens served 30 days in jail for the offense.
In 1996, he was convicted of accepting a bribe and spent 30 months in federal prison.
Lukens died of cancer Saturday in a nursing home in Dallas. No information was available about when he moved to Dallas. His last known address was an apartment on Peterson Lane behind the Galleria.

Wow, another one bites the dust.. Sex with a teenager huh? Gee I wonder if they ever did a comparison on Republican vs. Democrat indiscretions who’s numbers would be higher?
Why does it always seem that the American media is great at pointing fingers but these fabulous reporters never seem to have the moxie to take their finger pointing a step further with cold hard facts like:
* how many heterosexual men are convicted of sex-crimes vs. homosexual men?
* how many repubs get busted for sex vs. dems?
Then when these numbers are posted, they can post historical statements such as “….would never trust my kids with a gay..” or “… there’s more to sex than doing it with a cigar” etc..
Funny how it would get the wheels of reality spinning in reader’s heads wondering why they never connected to all this newly published factual information earlier turning that fabulous news reporter into a first class celebrity for all the hard work.
Last I remember, police arrests were public info weren’t they? So who wants to volunteer for this exciting and fun filled fact-finding mission? Huh?
Oh that’s right… asking the gay community to roll up their sleeves and help is like asking them to have their nuts removed. Heaven forbid they should be asked to refrain from going to the gym for a couple nights. That would be absolute terrorism.. !
