She noted the upcoming one-year anniversary of the LGBT equality resolution and the number of items that have been accomplished in the year since its passage. Among the most notable are this week’s equalization of pension benefits for married police and firefighters as well as equalization of benefits for other city workers earlier this month.
“You stood for us and stood up for us,” Fink said.
Other accomplishments she noted were the city’s inclusion of LGBT issues recommended by the LGBT Task Force in lobbying efforts before the legislature this session and improving the city’s ranking in the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index.
Not used to hearing compliments, the mayor and city council allowed Fink to go one minute overtime, a privilege not often given to speakers.
