The DFW affiliate of Out & Equal Workplace Advocates presents One Night Down Under, its Australian-themed annual signature event to raise money for its educational programs and the Evelyn Caldwell Memorial Scholarship Fund.

American Airlines tickets will be auctioned live with a silent auction for a variety of items from a variety of LGBT-owned and LGBT-friendly businesses, including dinners from Dish and a painting by Oak Cliff artist Daniel Padilla. Attendees will also be invited to sample a variety of wines and hors d’ouvres and cheeses.

“The funds allow us to do educational programming throughout the year,” Out & Equal DFW president Jeffrey Gorczynski said.

That includes panel discussions and monitoring policy and practice, Gorczynski said.

The organization’s scholarship sponsors one or two people to attend the annual national workplace equality summit. Last year’s summit was held in Dallas at the Anatole Hotel. This year’s takes place in Baltimore in October.

Out & Equal was planning to return to Dallas and would have already signed another conference here. They are still negotiating, according to Gorczynski, but Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings’ refusal to sign the Freedom to Marry pledge has been a sticking point in negotiations.

The local organization’s next event is Bring Your Partner’s Picture to Work Day, which takes place on Oct. 9, two days before National Coming Out Day.

One Night Down Under takes place at Times Ten Cellars, 6324 Prospect Ave. Thursday, Aug. 9. 6–8 p.m. $40 at the door.
