The Israeli city of Tel Aviv has invited Caitlyn Jenner to headline the city’s June 12 Gay Pride Parade. Conchita Wurst, winner of the 2014 Eurovision singing competition is expected to participate in the event, billed as “the largest gay Pride event in the history of Asia and the Middle East.” Organizers say Tel Aviv Pride is expected to bring in about 180,000 participants.
Yaniv Waizman, who holds the gay portfolio on the Tel Aviv City Council (which means he is in charge of LGBT issues for the city), extended the invitation, saying in a public statement to Jenner: “When I saw your interview with Diane Sawyer, I was amazed by your bravery and determination to live your life as you choose. The fact that you provided us an opportunity to smile and revealed the personal and complex process you went through, the difficulties that stood in your way, made you a source of inspiration for us in Tel Aviv.”
The theme for this year’s Tel Aviv Pride is “Tel Aviv Loves All Genders,” intended to promote awareness of and equality for the transgender community.
