eXXXoticaExhibit sales for eXXXotica in Dallas at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center have opened. But the event still isn’t quite  scheduled.
The city has until today to file its response to a federal injunction filed to let the expo take place in the convention center. The Dallas City Council hasn’t budged in its stand-off with the expo yet, but the company is sure approval is imminent for the event originally scheduled for May 20-22.
EXXXotica bills itself as “the largest event in the USA dedicated to love & sex” and appreciates that I’ve stopped calling it the porn expo.
Councilman Scott Griggs posted at the time of the Dallas City Council 8-7 vote against the expo that a federal judge would be the 16th and final vote. Griggs also commented that Dallas Police and the vice squad reported absolutely no crimes committed at last year’s eXXXotica expo at the Kay. (I added “at the Kay” not Scott. The Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau wants us to use that name and I just haven’t gotten used to it yet, so I’m using this event to adjust.)
The city’s sexually-oriented business ordinance doesn’t apply to temporary uses of facilities.
Actually, rather than suing the city, eXXXotica should be thanking the city. Make no mistake, the city will lose in court, if this stupidity goes that far, and the denial of services has generated more buzz about the event than the company could ever have created on its own. I didn’t go last year. I had no interest in going this year. But now? Can’t wait to go.
