Bruce Wood Dance truly creates magic with star-studded cabaret show

Anyone who last year attended Mistletoe Magic — the annual cabaret and fundraiser for the Bruce Wood Dance Project — knows that they have hit upon something that truly is magic: Broadway stars Liz Calloway and Hugh Panaro, pianist Joseph Thralken and the crazy-talented dancers of BWDP. They are bringing all of them back this year, and blowing it out even more with a huge party at City Performance Hall. It’s a not-to-be-missed celebration of music, movement and memories.
DEETS: City Performance Hall,
2520 Flora St. $55–$100. 8 p.m.

Another nut! Eisemann hosts ‘Hip-Hop Nutcracker’

We’ve used up a lot of ink (or if you’re an online reader, electrons) talking about Nutcrackers this season … and Hillary didn’t even get elected! (I kid, I kid.) from traditional to burlesque and even nearly naked. So what’s left? Hip-hop, as it turns out. The Hip-Hop Nutcracker still has Clara and Herr Drosselmeyer and the sugar plum fairies, but it’s all set to a rollicking score with a live violist, DJ and a dozen dancers crunkin’ it for Christmas. The one-night only event should enliven your Christmas Eve Eve.
DEETS: Eisemann Center,
2351 Performance Drive, Richardson.

Irreverent, hilarious ‘Book of Mormon’ returns to Winspear

Hello. My name is Elder Price. And I would like to share with you the most amazing book. And not just book — score, sets, direction, choreography. Why, it’s The Book of Mormon, the hilariously irreverent musical comedy making its third appearance in Dallas, but each time is an event. The sassy satire lovingly pokes fun of the LDS church (including its wacky stance on homosexuality) … and it does so Broadway style, with lots of energy. And you can even ring in the New Year with a Dec. 31 performance. Believe!
DEETS: Winspear Opera House,
2403 Flora St.
