Uptown Players is getting ready to start a smashing 2022-23 season (read all about it in the Applause section in this issue of Dallas Voice), but first, they have to wind up the 2021-22 season. And they do so in fine form with Douglas Carter Beane’s The Little Dog Laughed, opening Friday, Aug. 19, and running through Aug. 28. The show stars Kevin Moore, Elizabeth Kensek, Carson Shofner and Shyama Nithiananda and tells the story of an up-and-coming actor pretending to be in a relationship with his female agent so no one will know he is gay. Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays for the run of the show. Tickets range from $30-$50 and are available online at UptownPlayers.org.

Metroplex-wide drag
The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is never at a loss for first-class drag, whether you are headed to the famed Rose Room or munching down at one of the areas many drag brunches. This Friday night, Aug. 19, is no exception, with two top-notch opportunities on opposite ends of the Metroplex. In Dallas, drag and queerlesque troupe Mustache Envy performs at Sue Ellen’s, 3014 Throckmorton St., beginning at 9:30 p.m. And in Fort Worth, Drag Race Thailand cohost Pangina Heals returns to her “U.S. home bar” Urban Cowboy, 2620 E. Lancaster Ave., for a special performance at 9 p.m. benefitting HELP Center for LGBT Health and Wellness.

You saw me standing alone …
It’s time for the August installment of Blue Moon Dance — a women-only event that happens the third Saturday of each month, which is, thankfully, much more frequent than a blue moon — from 7 p.m.-midnight. So put on your dancing shoes, BYOB and head on to Dance Makers Texas, 6125 SW 820, Ste. 140. We bet you won’t be standing alone for long. Admission is $10.

A gay and a gay icon
It’s a good week for music lovers in North Texas, whether you are a country/western fan or a pop prince(ss). Openly gay country star Ty Herndon performs Saturday, Aug. 20, at 8 p.m. at Arlington Music Hall, and Mother Monster herself Lady Gaga (finally) brings her Chromatics Ball show to North Texas, with a concert Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 7:30 p.m., at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Ty tickets are available at EventBrite.com, and Gaga tickets are available at TicketMaster.com. Check listings for more details.
