The sound of ABBA echoes at Casa Manana with ‘Mamma Mia’

Moviegoers are looking forward to the summer release of the sequel to Mamma Mia (with Cher, no less!), but North Texas theatergoers have the original right at their doorsteps. Casa Manana is staging an all-new production of Mamma Mia, which features the songs of supergroup ABBA, including “Dancing Queen,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Take a Chance on Me” and “Money Money.” It’s directed by Tim Bennett, artistic director of Cirque du Soleil’s Ovo, and includes local favorite Denise Lee in the cast.

Turtle Creek Chorale concludes season with Outlaws concert

Gays are used to being considered outlaws, scoffing at sodomy bans and such for many years. So we have a lot in common with the outlaws of country music — Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, the Red-Headed Stranger and more. Now, the Turtle Creek Chorale embraces those bad cowboy roots, with its season-closing Outlaws concert. The mainstage of Moody Performance Hall will reverberate with honkytonk classics of days past and present, so boot-scoot over for one of three performances.
