As I blogged about earlier this month, the AFI International Film Festival’s slate of films is rather sparse on gay content… and oddly enough, some of it is competing against itself.
Tonight, “Valentino: The Last Emperor” profiles the famed fashion designer and his long-standing relationship with his partner, from who he had rarely spent time apart after many decades as a team. It screen tonight at 7:30 at NorthPark (around the same time as the DIFFA/Dallas preview show and Jack E. Jett’s Freespeechfest).Â
The tomorrow night is “Suddenly, Last Winter,” about the battle to recognize same-sex relationships in Italy. It screens at NorthPark at 10:30 p.m. (co-sponsored by OutTakes Dallas)… again, at the same time that another gay-interest film, “Bollywood Beats,” screens (at 10 p.m. at the Magnolia). But fear not. “Suddenly,” pictured, also screens on April 2 at 2 p.m. at NorthPark, if you can get away.
