Hard as it may be to believe, a month ago Texas only had one Corpus Christi. Now, there are an abundance. ANd most are in North Texas.
In addition to the Gulf Coast ‘burg, there was the failed attempt by Tarleton State U. students to mount an edited version in Stephenville of Terrence McNally’s play Corpus Christi. Then local activists and artists conspired to bring that production up here so the students could see their vision realized — first to the Rose Marine Theatre, then to a church on Cowtown (details still pending).
Next, Todd Camp with Q Cinema announced his intent to stage a full-length version later in the summer.
But Art for Peace & Justice looks to scoop them all.
A cast from Los Angeles that has been performing a full-length version of the play across the country and even Europe for more than four years are being brought in for a series of benefit performances at the Cathedral of Hope in early June. That very cast will also be making a documentary about their travels. So, it’s a chance to see the play, be part of a movie, raise money and stick it to those closed-minded people who think censorship works.
