I am something of an expert on bad movies, in part because so many movies are bad and I see so many, but even I have never been able to venture into Battlefield Earth. I was always afraid, somehow, that even seeing it on video might tag me as a Scientology sympathizer or support their causes. And like most gay people, I have heard the stories about how the “religion” is popular among Hollywood elite because it promises to de-gay you (as I’m sure Travolta and Cruise have been told).
But I just read an apology for the film, written by the film’s original screenwriter, which is both hysterical and informative. You can read it here. I don’t know about you, but I think this would make a good movie.

Okay, I have never watched “Battlefield Earth.” I tried but couldn’t make it past the first few minutes. I read the article Arnold links to here, and then read the comments under it. This was my favorite comment: It was the movie equivalent of Sarah Palin.
