NBC 5 aired the above report about Cedar Springs crime on Saturday. The report was obviously stolen directly from my story in last week’s Voice. Not only did NBC 5 fail to give us any credit, they butchered it in the online version:
“Dallas Police say there have been 134 violent crimes this year in the area east of Lemmon, west of Maple, south of Oak Lawn and north of Kings Road.”
If anyone can figure out where exactly the area is to which they’re referring, please let me know. NBC 5 needs to get a clue and some ethics.

“…east of Lemmon, west of Maple, south of Oak Lawn and north of Kings Road.”
those are the best directions ever written ever
Hon —
It’s called “ripping and reading.” TV stations have been doing that to newspapers for DECADES. Take it as a compliment.
Interesting that they didn’t do a story on the MOST crime ridden area in the city. Or the second. They chose to talk about the THIRD most crime infested area.
And those directions are perfectly clear, John — everywhere in the entire city OUTSIDE of Oak Lawn.
DFWMediaWatcher,
I understand it’s a common practice, but that doesn’t make it right, especially in cases where the original report is an exclusive. Hence the title, “Why I don’t watch TV news.” If they’re going to rip off other media outlets, the least they can do is be responsible non-journalists and get the story right.
Wow, only 134 crimes in entire rest of the City of Dallas.
Have these people heard of a map? LOL.
