Local promoters Method Entertainment announced the beginning of a live music series at the West Village. So if you happen to be shopping and/or dining tonight, don’t be surprised to hear Austin musician Mike Maven playing his singer-songwriter pop tunes. Shows continue every Tuesday until the end of July in the West Village South Alley (who knew it had an official name?) between Lazare and Mi Cocina restaurants.
Much like the Cedar Springs First Wednesdays, Method’s event notice says “the series has been created to attract business, entertain the community and to bring top quality acts to an area that rarely has musical events.” We can dig that.
John Solis of Method said he was approached by West Village to handle the series. “I was happy to help them with entertainment. I think its great for local musicians to have this kind of exposure. It’s a whole new market for them,” Solis said. If you think it was just a matter of snagging players for the series, think again.
“They called me and asked for a list of 24 artists that would be available for the event. From that, their board has to all agree on the entertainment selection that they think is best for West Village. Once they have made their decision, I contact the talent and let them know they have been selected,” he said. After the details are ironed out, voila, music series.
Method mostly does shows at venues like Club Dada in Deep Ellum and Lola’s in Fort Worth. It could be interesting to see the mix of artists Solis puts together for a slightly different crowd should this work out into an annual event. And according to Solis, that’s what the West Village people are thinking about.
Here is the rest of the schedule:
Tuesday July 7th 6-9pm – Mike Mavin
Tuesday, July 14th 6-9pm – Scott McCurry
Tuesday, July 21st 6-9pm – Peter Black (The Orbans)
Tuesday, July 28th 6-9pm – Josh Goode & Bobby Hathorn, Brannon Barnett, Chris Johnson
I’m gonna say that this music maven is a mere 6-pack and a push, I mean mean look at that questioning expression…
Hm. I hope hope hope that the West Villagers appreciate this divine series. Me thinks that the line-up will please even the cover-band-lovering folks. It’s a nice little line-up, pretty darn close to making me want to hang at the Village….but I ain’t got no hip clothes, nor can I afford to Botox my crow’s-feet-infested eyes…wah.
I love you Rich! You too, Solis!
Mod E was correct. Bud Light. Little push, little pull…
@Cindy,
If you really want to be like the Villagers, just put it on your almost maxed out credit card and pretend like you have money to afford it.
Bitter: Party of Tisha…We’ve got one miffed 30K Millionaire on our hands…
hehe…not bitter at all…I’m so one of those people…actually was in the Village yesterday shopping and I so used my credit card for the whole excursion.
