A dozen affinity groups based on gender, race and ethnicity at the army’s academy at West Point were ordered to immediately “cease all activities.” Among those affected is Spectrum, a social club that supported LGBTQ cadets.

The closures were in response to an executive order signed by President Trump that eliminates any diversity, equity and inclusion programs from the federal government.

Among the groups closed was a women’s group that was created in 1976, the year women were first admitted into the academy.

The order to disband was immediate and included canceling any trips, meetings or activities and to remove anything about the groups that was online.
