Mordecai holds arty DIFFA benefit
North Texas native and gay artist Clint Mordecai has a droll style that has the saturated and exaggerated colors of a comic book, often with a campy undertone. His latest collection — iTonic: A Sci-Fi Wireless Odyssey — debuts on Friday in Victory Park as a fundraiser for DIFFA. The exhibit portrays the intertwining of human lives with ubiquitous technology. The event will include spirits by Absolut and treats by Corner Bakery, and a $5 raffle ticket will benefit DIFFA while giving you a chance to win gift certificates, original art, food and more. It takes place at the Cirque Apartments near American Airlines Center.

Steven Jay Crabtree’s ‘Dysfunctional Divas’ returns to Pocket Sandwich
It’s been a while since we saw Steven Jay Crabtree perform his Dysfunctional Divas! show, and frankly, we just assumed he was in an insane asylum. But he’s apparently been reprieved, as he returns to his old haunt — late-night at Pocket Sandwich Theatre — for more of his hilariously kooky one-man show, in which the queermedian takes on charaters like ghost hunters, superheroes, party girls and aging movie stars in his
R-rated rants.

FIT starts early with John Michael, other gay content
We’re not used to gearing up for the Festival of Indepdendent Theatres in May, but that’s what we’ve had to do, since FIT started a month earlier than usual (so it could coincide with the Theater Communications Group Conference here in Big D). But whenever it comes, we’re always on the lookout for exciting new stories told in repertory format. This year — the 15th — that means eight companies producing a variety of shows. Among the newcomers is John Michael, the queer performance artist whose one-man monologue, Like Me, addresses social media and its consequences for a sex-obsessed 20something. His FIT debut is Saturday, but the festival goes from May 31 to June 22.
