For those who are keeping track, Fort Worth City Councilman Joel Burns’ “It Gets Better” speech had 936,756 views on YouTube as of Saturday morning. Burns made the first of what undoubtedly will be numerous national TV appearances Friday on CNN. “An overwhelming day. Again, thank you for the outpouring of support,” Burns wrote on Facebook on Friday night.

  1. Joel’s happy. He’s getting his 15 minutes of fame. I’m sure he’ll milk this for a while.

Meanwhile his silly stunt makes gay people look pathetic. He is a 40 year old man. Sure he can still be angry about being bullied but does he really have to cry ? What kid didn’t get bullied ? I’m sure 99% of elected officials have been bullied as kids but do they all cry and post their performances on Youtube ?

He’s embarrassed the gay community. We need strong, professional leaders – not silly little attention whores who are willing to sink to this kind of fakery to get attention. If this is how he plans to behave then we need to elect someone else in his place.

  2. wow glenn, bully much?  joel hasn’t embarrassed anyone yet you managed to embarrass yourself.

  3. Glenn, I’m shocked at your attitude. I was very moved by the video because, like others, I was bullied in junior high school and the scars run deep. Of course he should cry…for himself…and for the loss of life of the others he was talking about as he showed pictures on the screen. He made the gay community proud as a city leader in Fort Worth Texas, of all places, and probably does more for breaking gay stereotypes than any city leader I know of. BRAVO to Joel. I posted this clip on my personal Facebook and I can tell you that the reaction from Conservatives has been positive and empathetic.

  4. I am very proud that Joel had the Integrity & guts to stand up for others in the same situation he was in as a teen, theres no way to count the lives he has saved by telling his story of hope.
