Over on the main page we’ve posted an Associated Press story about two more lawsuits that were filed Tuesday challenging the constitutionality of the federal Defense of Marriage Act. But we also wanted to share the above video featuring one of the plaintiffs, Edith Schlain Windsor. “Edie” and her late wife, Thea Spyer, were together for 44 years before Spyer died from complications of multiple sclerosis in 2009. They were married in Canada and their marriage was recognized by their home state of New York — but not, of course, by the federal government. Now Windsor is suing because she had to pay heavy inheritance taxes.
