Maybe I’m too close to this because of my coverage, but this video promoting Trinity Wheeler’s production of “The Laramie Project in Tyler — which opens tonight and runs Friday and Saturday — nearly moved me to tears. Maybe it’s the variety of voices and faces — young, old, male, female, straight, gay, white, brown, strong, infirm — but it touches me.
I hope some of y’all get to see this play. I’m out of town this weekend, so I’ll have to miss it. But if the play is as good as the video, it should be an event.
OMG! I recognize some of the faces in that video! I grey up in Texarkana, TX and went to Tyler now and then! Maybe I’ll get to see the play tomorrow night! YAY!
Laramie Project on stage… highly fictionalized account of a gay man murdered… moved you to tears. Trans women murdered in a highly fictional account on film… lots of laughs.
Gee Arnold, if only the stage depiction Matthew’s murder could have included all the camp, and humor TOTWK does, then it wouldn’t be such a downer as to make you cry. After all, it’s only entertainment.
The Laramie Project isn’t just entertainment. It’s a story about a town trying to heal, and everyone involved fought to have it performed at Tyler Civic Theatre. It was moving, and exceptionally well put together. It was beautiful. Congrats to Trinity and the entire cast and crew. Bravo!
