Two Dallas arts organizations and LGBTQ faves have announced a first-time collaboration. Uptown Players and Bruce Wood Dance Dallas have joined their creaitve superpowers to present a limited engagement cabaret piece later this summer. The two will present IMAGINE that celebrates love and identity through song and dance.
Performances will be held at the Kalita Humphreys Theater for one-weekend only on Aug. 8 and 9.
The show will be a fusion of cabaret-style songs, contemporary dance and live music. The experience will honor the LGBTQ community and its allies through stories of romance, chosen family and self-expression set to the music of John Lennon, Elton John and Johnny Mathis.
“This collaboration has been a long time coming,” Craig Lynch, Executive Producer of
Uptown Players said in the press release. “We’ve admired Bruce Wood Dance Dallas for years, and it’s incredibly exciting to merge our storytelling sensibilities for a piece that uplifts, entertains and resonates on a deeply human level.”
The Uptown Players cast will include Peter DiCesare, Seth Paden, Brett Warner and Kylie Stewart.
IMAGINE will feature new choreography performed by BWDD company members Weaver Rhodes, Elliott Trahan, Cole Vernon, Mia Rosin and Megan Storey.
“IMAGINE is about more than just music and movement—it’s a celebration of the diverse experiences that shape who we are,” Joy Bollinger, Artistic Director of Bruce Wood Dance Dallas, mentioned in the release. “We’re thrilled to bring our artists together and create something that speaks to the heart of our community.”
