- Vonciel Jones Hill
We’ve confirmed with a staff member in Dallas City Councilwoman Angela Hunt’s office who handles the invitations that Vonciel Jones Hill is the only councilmember, other than Mayor Tom Leppert, who doesn’t plan to attend gay Pride this year.
As we reported earlier, Leppert has a “longstanding personal commitment” on the day of the Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade, but he’s appeared at Pride twice before. Hill, on the other hand, has never appeared in the parade since joining the council in 2007 and has in fact stated that she never will.
No one answered the phone in Hill’s office Monday afternoon, but we’re assuming her reason for not attending the parade hasn’t changed from last year. Here’s what she told us a year ago:
“I won’t be participating [this year], and based on my present beliefs, I won’t be participating in the future,” Hill said. “There’s no reason I should be castigated for that.”
Asked what those beliefs are, Hill said: “I believe that all people are loved by God, all people are created equal under God, but there are acts that God does not bless. It does not mean the person is any less God’s child. I’m entitled to stand for what I believe, and I don’t appreciate anyone castigating me for standing for what I believe.”
Not only does Hill not believe in gay Pride, but she also even refuses to sign the letter from the City Council that appears in the Dallas Tavern Guild’s annual Pride guide, which will be distributed inside this coming Friday’s Dallas Voice. The letter simply congratulates and thanks the Tavern Guild for putting on another successful Pride celebration. The staff member in Hunt’s office said Hill is the only council member who refused to sign the letter.
With a city election in May 2011, we’re hoping this will be Hill’s last chance to totally disrespect her LGBT constituents in District 5.

I do not have the energy to castigate a woman of her size. I also don’t think it is fair to make fun of the mentally challenged as she obviously is. Maybe she should read the part of the Bible about being so overly hefty. I think that is a sin. The upside is that by her NOT going it leaves room for at least 24 more people.
David…I was thinking the same thing. Her and other local homophobes like Jeffress should take some lessons in styling ….cause he looks like some old glory hole queen and she/he looks like ………….a bouncer a the old Jugs.

Good for her! Why should she attend or sign? She doesn’t support gay behavior. Neither do most of us in this Christian nation. Gays have the right to do it but don’t expect most of us to support you. You know, we’re all tempted to do things wrong, but we need to have the discipline and strength to avoid that behavior. Most gays can choose not to be gay, just as most alcoholics can choose to avoid it.

hey rockwall man……….either of two things happened today…….either there was no penis to b found at your local rockwall cruise spot/toilet/gloryhole/bookstore…..or there was plenty and you went on a sucking rampage and are feeling guilty. that is the reason we have found most christians visit this blog to do some verbal gay bashing. it makes them feel a little less gay. the fact of the matter is that feeling of needing some penis in your throat will come back and before you know it…….rockwallman is on his knees or plowing the fields of some of the local farmboys. i mean really…..if you were all that proud of you heterosexualness and your holier than though xtian tude, you would NOT hide behind some fake name .
you should be proud. give us your name. invite us all down to your church for some good old praying the gay away, lovin the sinner, and the old standard…….adam and eve not adam and steve, then after that fails, we can go back to plowing those farm boys……..YEEEE Haw
